Bar Pull Cabinet

Bar Pull Cabinet
Is there such a thing as a telescoping island range hood?

We just bought a house and the glass cooktop is installed in the middle of a bar countertop that divides the kitchen from the living room (no overhead cabinets or bulkhead). The previous owners didn't install any sort of ventilation (either downdraft or island range hood). I would prefer not to have a island range hood because it would block the open head space, but installing a downdraft vent seems to be more difficult because it would require re-cutting the granite, or buying a new cooktop with one already a part of it and losing cabinet space underneath for the motor and running the duct work. I was hoping there was a island range hood that I could mount to the ceiling at a higher height and then pull down to vent height when cooking. Does that exists?

No such thing. I been in the kitchen biz for 29 years come Feb and never heard of such a thing. But I tell ya what. You have a good idea to go with your very common complaint there. You need to patent that idea.
