BENDER BALL-- A Real Ab Blaster

I’ve got a weakness for anything that will make toning this old gut easier.  So when I happened on the BENDER BALL on an AS SEEN ON TV ad, I immediately perked up.  When I saw that the theory of “Selective Stabilization” behind it was introduced by Leslee Bender, a fitness guru of 25 years experience, I was really hooked!  Then I found out that the little lady’s class at the YMCA uses it routinely, so it must be good.

This toning product is really nothing more than a nine inch diameter, air filled ball.  You place it under your lower back and do crunches.  Because the ball allows you to go back further, your stomach muscles have to work harder to bring you forward.  This “flex extension” of the lower back requires work from the upper and lower abs as well as the side muscles to bring the upper body forward.  Because of this extra effort, the BENDER BALL  is said to increase the effect of abdominal crunches by a factor of over 400% as compared to the normal ab crunch.

The physiology behind the BENDER BALL makes sense.  In a  traditional crunch exercise, there is no rear flexing of the back...you can only go forward.  However, add the BENDER BALL, and  your exercise becomes an extension back as well as a flexion forward.  Because of this rearward addition, they recommend that you check with your physician to make sure your back can handle it before ordering.  A good idea, especially  if the years have robbed you of some flexibility.

The BENDER BALL comes with either a DVD ($12.99) or VHS ($9.95) instructional tape plus $7.93 shipping and handling.  If that’s where it ended, it would be great.  There are several ordering options, and you get more stuff and/or DVD’s with each option.  It’s really quite confusing.  If you ever get to the “Convenience--Right to your Doorstep” section, you’ll find out that by placing your initial order, you are automatically enrolled in an enhanced DVD program and will receive 2 DVD’s every other month and be charged an additional $19.95 plus $6.95 S & H.  If you’re into exercise DVD’s, go for it!  If not, well I don’t know how to get around this feature up front before you’re sent the first two DVD’s.

The BENDER BALL really is an ab blaster though.  It has received good reviews by users and trainers alike;  a lot of sore abs after use (that my wife can attest to) which is a good thing!   Just make sure your body and back can handle it before ordering.

Since there may be some out there with nothing better to do than to read my product reviews, I thought I might put a little of me out there for all the world to see.
I retired about 16 years ago after practicing a health science profession for 25 years. We used computers for billing only back then. The hardware and software were not reliable enough to use for complex non-retrievable data; crashes were a weekly occurrence and backups were done at least twice daily. So when I retired, I thought my interaction with computers, although indirect, was over. Boy! Was I mistaken! I mean, what’s an old guy gonna do all day? I tried golf...fun but frustrating! Practice does not lead to perfect in that game! So...I reacquainted myself with the computer. Only this time, on a personal level.
Several years ago, I became fascinated with the products and concepts of “As Seen On TV”. After buying a ton of stuff, most of it useful, my wife said I could provide a worthwhile service by reviewing products and letting the world know my opinion via the internet. Common handball injury?

I think I tore my rotator cuff playing handball, is this a common injury? I have full movement but I can't swing my arm above my head anybody know if this is "normal" and how long it last? I did it with my arm in full extension with a swing and a miss for a ball.

Yea it is a common injury. I've had many injury just like that. Sometime when I serve the ball too hard my shoulder will start hurting. It will probably last for a week or maybe less. Just take a rest from playing handball and it will heal quickly.
