Types of Door Hardware

Door hardware can be one of the more challenging parts of redecorating a room, or even just redecorating an individual door. In order to update the look of a door, one might opt for new hardware before considering the purchase of the completely new door. The hardware can make a big difference in the appearance of the door and can even make an older door blend better with your new décor arrangements.

Picking door hardware that will update the look of your door

One thing to consider before replacing a door is whether or not it is the door itself, or just the hardware that needs to be changed. If the hardware is the part that needs the update, this simple purchase can make a big difference on the look of the entire room the door occupies. Interior door hardware as well as exterior door hardware can take a beating because of its frequent use and handling. Picking hardware that has a good finish and has been constructed of quality materials is extremely important to ensure the life of the hardware. If the hardware is of premium quality, then the appearance will last for years.

Another thing to consider is the finish. Is your home inspired by an antique look? If it is then this can be the perfect fit for your door hardware. No matter what your décor preferences are, the most important thing is to keep the hardware consistent with the rest of your home styling and finishes. This rule applies to all door hardware including: locks, door knobs, finger pulls, and lever as well.

How to make an older door blend with your new décor

A difficult part about redecorating is finding a way to blend the pieces you already have with the new ones. Your doors can be very easy when choosing a different finish for your home. Simply changing the door hardware can remedy the issue very easily. This is also the same with style changes. If your home was classic and you are redecorating with an antique appearance, the hardware can help unify the home without a lot of hassle.

moen shower faucet plugged?

I have a single handle twist on shower faucet. It is fairly new. I am on a private well with lots of fine sand in the water. The faucent on cold barely trickles out so it must be partially plugged with sand. How do I remove the cartridge? I have taken off all the hardware, but what is left will not budge. I read I need a special tool, but the instructions say a twist and pull method applies. Can one remove this cartirdge by just yanking on it? Any advice or links is appreciated.

No daren, that rip & pull stuff is bunk.
straddle the tub and look at the faucet from the outside. look for the nuts/allen screws/trox etc. once you find the right one, shut the water off at the main, open the water and drain out the line then proceed to take apart the faucet and place a rag on the drain so not to loose nuts etc.
start taaking it off peice by peice until you get to the screen/filter and clean it/blow the sand out and replace it the same way.
you can do it, go for it and live a little.
