11 month old cat chewing everything!!?

its like a dog!! it just started 2 weeks ago and i have had him since he was 7 weeks old. he chewed my sandles to pieces, shoes, bra straps, straps on shirts, bag handles ect. he doesnt just chew it he eats it as well. im afriad that a piece could get stuck in his system. i put away my clothes and shoes in drawers and closest but he some how opens them and pulls them out!! what can i do to stop this behaviour?
he has like tons of toys and his mother was killed when he was 3 weeks old so he never learned to clean himself so i have to give him baths all the time so he is used to water and the spray bottle no longer works cuz of that.
thanx liz but he only chews fabric so im not sure if those plastic chews would work, i will give it a try tho. he has fabric toys but doesnt chew them just run around with them and throw them in the air

Our kitten is a chewer too and it was a serious challenge to teach her not to chew electrical cords. She responded very well to a harsh voiced "eh eh!" Now she has plastic toys to chew instead and every so often, I'll let her "steal" something like a pen. She takes it and hides it and it keeps her from stealing anything I might actually want. I also found some great cat chews at Petco which are about the size and shape of a pencil. Great for natural chewers.
