I would like champagne on a beer budget, please.?
I have a problem kitchen. The cabinets are laminate. They are plain, rectangular pieces of white laminate that basically look like the counter top. The also have indentations where you pull them open at the top. It's a standard 10' by 10' kitchen straight out of 1990s contemporary world. The appliances are old, but functional. They are also white.
Here is my idea. I have Sears coming for a cabinet refacing consultation, but i have a feeling they are just going to rip me off. I would like to keep the white laminate shell and add gray laminate doors with no indentation. The hardware will be modern. I could then paint and put metallic wallpaper in a minimalist style to make it pop. I have $1,000 (hence the beer budget). Any ideas for this kitchen? I'm on a budget, but don't want to feel like I'm walking into a garage like I do now.
you can do this if you really want , paint the doors, and if you have a lot of cupboards you can even remove a couple doors and use the shelves as a display, change the knobs , give a good paint job to the walls, add or change the window treatment , git rid of clutter, no magnets on the fridge either and you will have saved a lot of money.
If you have it professionally done a $1000 wont cover it , don't forget the labour and taxes on top of the new doors. You are not alone a lot of us have a beer wage and we cannot afford to have the champagne taste, but we can only improvise but at the end we are proud of our accomplishments. I would buy grey paint and new knobs and paint the cupboards if I were you .
