Hardware Inset Hinges
What kind of cabinet hinges?
Looking at hinges and I'm pretty confused. I'd like to get the soft-close hinges, but I am not sure what kind of overlay hinge I need. I am ordering cabinets that have a 2" overlay over the opening. I have found a great price on ebay...

but I'm not sure if I should get the half, full, or inset overlay hinges. What do I need? Can you tell me if these are concealed or not?
Major oops... that was supposed to be 1/2" overlay, not 2"!! But anyway, I think I'll just stick to the hinges my cabinet guy uses. Thanks!
First, the hinge you have pictured is not a "soft close hinge", it is a "self close hinge", there is a big difference, both in operation and price.
Second, unless you are talking about a 2" overlay ( Overlay- the amount the door covers the face frame on either side, available in 1/2", 1" and 1 1/2" also known as "full overlay") as 1" each side, there is no such thing as a 2" overlay, as most all cabinet stiles are 3", the most you could have would be 1 1/2" or "full overlay", where no face frame is visible, just door.
Unless you are very familiar with cabinetry and hinging, picking the correct hinge is extremely difficult. You can either look through a Rockler catalog or you can email me the specifics of your situation and I can help you.
In any case, the hinge you have pictured is not the one you think you want.
