LG To Launch Energy-Efficient Dishwasher

An eco-friendly steam dishwasher has been showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. LG have developed a technology called TrueSteam which uses eco-friendly steam cycles to deliver 'excellent' results.

LG's integrated TrueSteam generator creates powerful steam that can dissolve tough residue on dishes. Such is the effectiveness of TrueSteam, LG claim the Steam Power cycle leaves dishes perfectly clean with no need to pre-wash cutlery by hand. Additionally, the Steam Delicate cycle is designed to use gentler steam to remove resistant stains, such as lipstick, without damaging or scratching delicate items such as stemware and chinaware. The dishwasher could prove ground-breaking in eco-friendly kitchen appliances.Furthermore, LG's says its inverter Direct Drive motor makes the dishwasher further energy efficient, cutting energy use by up to 71 percent compared with standard A+ energy rated dishwashers. It can also make washing and draining quieter too, with noise levels peaking at 42 decibels, the quietest in its category.

It is unsure if TrueSteam technology is the real deal. Previous 'eco-friendly' dishwashers have had limited cleaning powers and been surrounded in doubt about their capabilities. Each year Energy Star highlights a manufacturer as partner of the year in appreciation to high quality energy efficient across several appliance lines. For both 2009 and 2010, that partner was Bosch. Bosch has been commended for both it's commitment to energy efficiency in it's appliances and reducing the environmental impact of appliances during each phase of the product life cycle, such as manufacturing, recycling and disposal. Bosch's Senior Brand and Environmental Marketing Manager John Farley said replacing the average set of appliances with Bosch dishwashers, fridges, washing machines and other appliances, and then users can accumulate £1000 in energy savings over the lifetime of the appliances.

There are a number of online retailers including Laskys.com, whose kitchen appliances pages feature a live price comparison from other online stores. The web is a great resource for checking the energy efficiency of kitchen appliances.
