What You Must Know About When It Comes to Sizing Your Bed and Bedding
It's not something that you probably ponder until you go to purchase bedding or a new mattress, but the size options these days is ridiculous. It's becoming more and more common for people to believe that they have a standard size of frame or mattress, but really it's something that's a little custom in nature. This can really bring up some issues when you are trying to decorate your room or when you are getting a new mattress.
The standard sizes of mattresses are twin, full, queen, king, and california king. Most of the time these come with some standard sizes and then tend to make shopping for bedding and frames very easy. However, things are never as easy as they probably should be and sizes do differ.
The three quarter bed is the first thing that you need to know about. The problem is many times these sizes are sold as queens when they really are not... the size, specifically, is much bigger than a full, but barely smaller than a queen... however it's small enough. Major problems and issues can result. A good example of this is when I purchased some luxury bedding, only to bring it home and have it be entirely too big.
A second size that you should know about are dorm room beds. These are not actually a twin, but longer by some inches. And of course you can only imagine how many people show up with bedding that is meant only for a twin bed. And as you would imagine, this is not just twin beds, but all sizes can be off by only a few inches which is really all you need to make the difference. And when you are buying queen bedding, you really want to make sure size is correct.
Lastly, you have to know about the depth of the bed. A standard bed is typically 14" thick but these days with all the pillow top on mattresses and just flat out different mattresses the depth is always different. This can add up to three inches in length and again cause you hassles. As you would expect, if you have really nice bedding like silk sheets then you can end up with problems, also with frames if the depth over powers the frame.
The key when you are dealing with anything about bedding, measure twice. Knowing these measurements will really help you know what you have going against you and going for you for all bedding type purchases. This will save you the hassel and money of mattresses, frames, and bedding that you can't end up using.
